And why most agencies take 4 months. it's not an accident

When we tell people we build custom websites in 4 weeks at a flat rate, the most common response is some version of: "That sounds too good to be true."
It's not. But it does require understanding why the traditional web design process is so broken — and what we do differently.
The Web Design Industry Has a Timeline Problem
The average web agency takes 3 to 6 months to deliver a website. Sometimes longer. Ask anyone who's gone through it.
The project starts with a "kick-off call" that takes two weeks to schedule. Then a discovery phase that drags on. Then a design round that gets pushed because your account manager is juggling 12 other projects. Then revisions. Then development. Then "we're waiting on your content." Then more revisions. Then a launch date that gets pushed twice.
Six months later, you have a website. And somewhere along the way, you received an invoice you weren't expecting.
This isn't incompetence — it's a business model. Most agencies bill hourly or bill by milestone, which means longer projects equal more revenue. There's no incentive to be fast.
At Launchd, the incentive is completely different. We charge flat rate. One price, agreed upfront. If the project takes us an extra week, that's our problem — not yours. Speed isn't a feature we added. It's built into the economics of how we operate.
Why We Can Do It in 4 Weeks
There are a few things that make our timeline possible:
1. We take on a limited number of projects at once
Most agencies have 20+ active projects at any given time. We don't. We keep the roster intentionally small so every project gets our full attention. When your project is in Week 3, we're not half-distracted by a dozen other clients.
2. We have a clear, tested process
We've built enough websites to know exactly what needs to happen in what order. There's no wasted time figuring it out as we go. Every week has a defined deliverable. Everyone knows what to expect.
3. We start with a thorough discovery call
The number one reason projects get delayed is unclear direction. We invest serious time in Week 1 to understand your business, your audience, your goals, and your content before a single pixel gets designed. When we have everything we need, we don't have to stop and ask mid-project.
4. We scope projects to be buildable in 4 weeks
We're not trying to build a 40-page enterprise platform in a month. Our packages are scoped to what small businesses actually need — 5 to 12 pages, done properly. Clean. Fast. Effective.
The Week-by-Week Process
Here's exactly what happens across four weeks:
Week 1: Discovery
We schedule a 60-minute discovery call. We cover everything: your business, your customers, what you like and don't like about websites you've seen, what pages you need, what content you have, what content you still need to create.
By the end of Week 1, we have:
A confirmed sitemap
A content plan (what you'll provide vs. what we'll write or source)
Your brand assets (logo, colours, fonts — or a note that we're creating them)
A shared understanding of the visual direction
You don't need to be a designer or marketer. You just need to show up to the call and answer our questions honestly.
Week 2: Design
We build the full website in Figma. Every page. Desktop and mobile. All the content placed, all the sections laid out.
At the end of Week 2, you get a Figma preview link and one round of revisions. This is where you tell us what to tweak — copy, layout, colours, photos. We make those changes and you approve.
Most clients are happy after the first or second look. We've never had someone ask for a third.
Week 3: Build
We take the approved Figma designs and build the site. This is the development phase — HTML, CSS, JavaScript, CMS setup if included in your package, SEO meta tags, mobile responsiveness, loading speed optimization.
You don't see much during this week. We're in execution mode.
Week 4: Launch
We do final testing across browsers and devices. We set up your domain and hosting if needed. We connect your analytics (Google Analytics, Search Console). We do a final walkthrough with you — either a screen share or a recorded video — so you know how everything works.
Then we publish. Your site goes live.
What You Need to Provide
We handle the design, the writing assistance, the build, the SEO foundation, and the launch. But there are a few things we need from you:
Your logo (or a note that you need one — we include brand identity in the Presence and Platform packages)
Your photos — headshots, team photos, photos of your work or properties. We can source stock photography if needed, but real photos always perform better
Basic information about your business — services, pricing if you want to include it, your story, your service area
Timely feedback — our 4-week timeline only works if you're responsive. We promise to be fast. We just need you to be too.
That's it. We don't require you to write full pages of copy or manage a project tracker. We guide you through exactly what we need, when we need it.
What Flat Rate Actually Means
No surprises. No hourly billing. No "that's out of scope" emails three months in.
Here's how it works at Launchd:
You choose a package. You pay a 15% deposit to secure your start date. We build your site over 4 weeks. When it's live and you're happy, you pay the remaining balance.
Not a penny more than the original quote.
If we get to launch and you feel something still needs work, we fix it. That's part of the process. We don't consider a project done until you're satisfied.
Our packages:
Portfolio — $1,799 flat · 5 pages · ideal for new agents, photographers, solo tradespeople
Presence — $2,699 flat · 8 pages · includes brand identity and CMS for real estate agents, mortgage brokers, contractors
Platform — $3,999 flat · 12 pages · for teams, developers, and multi-service businesses
Custom — Quoted per project for complex builds
A Real Example of the Timeline in Action
Here's how a recent project played out:
Monday, Week 1: Discovery call with a solo real estate agent in Ottawa. She'd been meaning to get a personal website for two years. We covered her specialty (first-time buyers), her market (Centretown and Hintonburg), and her visual preferences. She had a logo and some photos. We created the content plan.
Friday, Week 2: Delivered Figma mockups for 8 pages. She requested three changes — one layout tweak, one font size, and swapping a stock photo for one of her own. Done within 24 hours. Approved.
Thursday, Week 3: Sent her a staging link for review. She tested it on her phone, loved it, flagged one broken link. Fixed immediately.
Tuesday, Week 4: Live. Domain pointed. Google Search Console connected. She shared it on Instagram the same day.
Start to finish: 25 days.
Is 4 Weeks Right for Every Project?
Honestly, no. Some projects genuinely need more time — large e-commerce builds, complex integrations, multi-location platforms. For those, we scope a custom timeline.
But for the vast majority of small business websites — real estate agents, mortgage brokers, contractors, photographers, property managers — 4 weeks is not only possible, it's the right amount of time.
Long projects create decision fatigue, communication overhead, and scope creep. Four focused weeks produces a sharper, cleaner result than a six-month project that loses momentum halfway through.
